About Jason

Jason Hodge has spent his life in public service as a firefighter, emergency logistics coordinator, community advocate, and as an elected Oxnard Harbor Commissioner.

A longtime Ventura County resident with deep roots in the local community, Jason’s Father was a Seabee and Oxnard City Firefighter. His brother served in the Navy and his sister woks as a Red Cross coordinator. Public service is a family value.

Jason began his fire service career as a teenager and went on to serve more than two decades with the Ventura County Fire Department. During his career, he responded to emergencies throughout the county and across the country. That experience shaped Jason’s approach to public office: show up, listen to people, bring different groups together, and focus on getting things done.

Since first being elected to the Oxnard Harbor District in 2010, Jason has worked to make the Port of Hueneme both an economic engine and a national leader in environmental innovation. He has helped secure more than $250 million in grant funding for infrastructure and modernization projects, supported investments that create opportunities for local workers, and championed the Port’s goal of achieving zero-emission operations by 2030. Jason has been a leader in making the Port one of the greenest in the nation.

Jason believes the Port’s success should translate into success for the communities surrounding it. That means good-paying jobs, cleaner air, modern infrastructure, workforce opportunities, and stronger partnerships with Oxnard, Port Hueneme, labor, businesses, environmental organizations, and community groups.

He also believes elected officials have an obligation to seek out voices that aren’t always heard. Jason regularly engages with neighborhood leaders, environmental and social justice organizations, workers, businesses, and community-based groups to better understand how decisions at the Port affect the people who live around it.

For Jason, serving as Harbor Commissioner has never been simply about moving cargo. It is about making sure one of our region’s most important economic assets works for the people who call this community home.

Jason is running for reelection to continue that work: protecting good-paying local jobs, completing the Port’s transition toward zero emissions, bringing infrastructure investment into our community, and making sure Oxnard and Port Hueneme share in the Port’s continued success.
